Half Moon Bay, the oldest town in San Mateo County, is nestled between forested hills and some of the most beautiful coastlines that California has to offer. In 1874 the area known as Spanishtown officially became Half Moon Bay. The stagecoach stops at Purissima, Lobitas, and San Gregorio and the shipping wharves of Miramar and Pillar Point ensured that centralized Half Moon Bay was a thriving business community by the late 1800s.

Stroll downtown Half Moon Bay to catch a glimpse of our rich history: The bells of Half Moon Bay (corner of Main Street and Kelly Avenue); City Hall (501 Main Street); the two-cell jail (505 Johnston Street); the church and railroad depot (corner of Johnston and Miramontes).
